Randolph Cemetery (established 1872) - Phase III

Randolph Cemetery is located in northwest Columbia, SC. Named for Benjamin Franklin Randolph, a Reconstruction-era African-American SC State Senator who was assassinated in 1868. The Cemetery became a burial ground for prominent African-Americans in the community from 1872 throughout much of the twentieth century. Its significance was recognized in 1995 with its listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Committee for the Restoration and Beautification of Randolph Cemetery (CRBRC) retained Kreilick Conservation, LLC to complete the third phase of conservation of the Historic Randolph Cemetery, which involved the conservation treatment of twenty-five markers. The general conditions of these markers varied, with many of the markers having been displaced and broken. Conservation treatment included excavating partially covered stones, general surface cleaning with Vulpex Liquid Soap and D/2 Biological Solution, pinning and resetting of broken stones, repairing stone loss with Jahn Masonry Repair Mortar, and pointing joints in the stone. The entire process was thoroughly documented through photographs and AutoCAD drawings.
