Kreilick Conservation, LLC was retained by Avalon Contracting Inc. to provide conservation services for the World War I Memorial in Pershing Park, Washington, DC. The scope included an initial condition assessment followed by regularly scheduled maintenance of the bronze and granite elements of the Memorial. Conservation of the bronze sculptural elements took place three times per year, in the spring, summer, and fall. Major cleaning of the masonry took place twice per year, in the spring and fall.

The bronze elements included: John J. Pershing, General of the Armies (1983), by sculptor Robert Winthrop White (1921-2002) and architect Wallace Kirkman Harrison (1895-1981); The Bex Eagle (1980), by sculptor Lorenzo E. Ghiglieri (1931-2020); the Winged Victory Medallion, sculptor unknown; and a site plan / sculpture detail, by sculptor S. Howard. The bronze elements received a gentle cleaning and a protective coating of wax. The granite elements included the plaza where Pershing stands, all interpretive walls, all steps and pavers, and the interior of the pool. Floating pavers and interpretive walls with in-painted lettering received a gentle cleaning; fixed pavers, other interpretive walls and knee walls, steps, and the pool interior were pressure washed.
